Most honeys contain a certain level of antibacterial properties.
The difference between varieties of honey with regards to antibacterial
activity is immense. Laboratory testing is required to establish
the level of antibacterial activity in honey.
Honey should have a rating of four or higher before it can be regarded
as “Active Honey”. (Honey with an activity rating between 4 and
10 is a good eating honey and used in hot drinks to cure winter
illnesses.) Active Honey above 10+ is regarded as a medicinal honey.
The higher the activity rating is the stronger the medicinal quality. |
